Christopher Ruiz
7th Grade ELA Teacher
Platte Purchase Middle School
Welcome parents and students! I am the 7th grade English teacher at Barry and joined Platte County R-3 School District in 2015. I have taught both middle and high school students in California, Missouri, and China, and have experience teaching Honors and Advanced Placement courses. My formal education includes a B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. in English from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where my emphasis was on American literature and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).
I am a California native who moved to the Midwest in 2010. I say “dude” frequently, root for the Golden State Warriors, and long for the warm California weather during the midwestern winters. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my little boy, who enjoys books, archery, soccer, and dozens of made-up games, such as “balloons” and “dance party.”
To all the students who ended up here, looking for any clues about my age, I’m a member of Generation X, and grew up with an Apple 2 and an Atari 2600.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
