Read 180 Teacher
Barry School

Dear Barry parents and guardians,

I am the new Read 180 Reading Specialist at Barry School and would like to formally introduce myself. My name is Erica Cook and I am from Ottumwa, Iowa. Even though I am an Iowan, Missouri is where most of my family is located and thus I decided to go to college at Missouri Western State University. I graduated there with a Bachelor of Arts in English Education and a French Minor in December 2017. After graduation, I was hired mid-year to teach 6th grade ELA at Barry, and have been a part of the Barry staff ever since. I have also been Barry's NJHS sponsor since the 2018 school year and will continue doing so to support our most academic and confident students into their high school years.

After completing my Masters Degree in the Science of Education of Reading at Northwest Missouri State University in May of 2021, I decided to pursue this new adventure of a reading specialist career and was fortunate to have found an opening at Barry. I hope to be a great asset to the ELA department with my previous knowledge while giving that extra support to the students who need reading interventions.

I am so excited to share, learn, and grow with your students, and I look forward to this next adventure. Please feel free to email me with any questions, concerns, and/or comments.
