Erin Fleharty
5th Grade Teacher
Barry School
Dear Fifth Grade Pirate Family,
Welcome to fifth grade! My name is Miss Erin Fleharty, and I am very excited to be a part of the Fifth Grade Team Black teaching math and science! Get ready to have a fantastic time learning new ideas and exploring many learning opportunities on Team Black in Math and Science and in ELA and Social Studies with Mrs. Stallo. This year will bring many exciting learning opportunities for fifth graders as we begin departmentalizing and become part of the middle school community here at Barry!
This year will be my first year here at Barry School, but third year overall as an educator. I am proud to be joining such a fantastic learning community! I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University. During my time at Northwest Missouri State University, I worked towards my Language Arts Concentration and Iowa Reading Endorsement as well.
Being originally from a small town in Southwest Iowa, I am excited to start my new journey here in Kansas City, Missouri. This is a new lifestyle for me, as I was born and raised on a farm. On our farm, we produced soybeans and corn. We also ran a cow/calf operation. During my free time, I love to hang out with my friends and family! I enjoy spending time on the water, outdoors, and going on road trips! I am a huge Kansas City Royals fan and an even bigger Kansas City Chiefs fan. Go Chiefs! Just for you to get to know me a little better, here are two fun facts about me:
1. I was awarded as one of Missouri's Outstanding Beginning Teachers in 2021!
2. My family’s farm is located in the middle of a wind farm and the energy the wind turbines produce is transferred to California!
I am looking forward to meeting you on Wednesday, August 17 at Back to School Night from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. It is Open House style, which means you can come and go during this time. More information will be emailed to your caretaker(s). I can’t wait to meet you and begin our year of learning here on Team Black!
Sincerely,
Miss Erin Fleharty
